This is pretty cool.

Two of my favorite albums are being added to to the Library Of Congress's National Recording Registry.

Sonic Youth's Daydream Nation, the album that dragged me kicking and screaming away from hair metal and top-40 music at the end of the 80's, and Zappa's We're Only In It For The Money, which, while not my favorite Zappa album, certainly is the most representative of what he was really about. (I could kvetch and say that they should have taken Freak Out instead, but Money really is the stronger album.)

*Edit* Subsequent research shows me that there are quite a few things going in this year that I liked, including Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me The Pliers by the Firesign Theater, Switched-On Bach, by Wendy Carlos, and Gil Scott-Heron's "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised". A full list can be found here.
