Nothing of great import tonight...

Dead night at the video store. Watched "Shrek", "Pirates of The Caribbean", "Mortal Kombat", and a few episodes of "Family Guy". Had a 45-minute conversation with the guy that owns the chain I work for, mostly about business things, but in a very nice and relaxed way. (It's not like working for Blockbuster, that's for sure.)

Fast-forwarded my way through the newly released Paris Hilton video the other night. Mostly unimpressive is what I'd call it, though the hardcore content is certainly better than the Pam and Tommy tape. The problem with it, to me, is that unlike pr0n, you feel kind of icky watching this, because it's something that wasn't made for slavering twentysomethings and the raincoat crowd to watch. (One of these days, I'm gonna have to do something on the people who frequent my porn room.) This was probably something that Paris, as a wild 19-year old, thought would be fun to do and which would never see the light of day. And this Rick Solomon character, who appears in connecting segments, comes off looking mighty sleazy. Worth a look for the curiosity factor, but don't waste the $40 if you can download it instead. (I'm sure it will be BT'ed within a couple of days.)

More tomorrow, as I haven't finished watching Raw or either of last week's NWA shows.(No opportunities.)

Jon, quick question. Seeing as Azumi isn't available here in Region 1, how did you obtain a copy and how did you get it to rip to a DVD? Region Free Illegal OMG Warez dealie? Also, I think you should post your Asian Cinema collection so I will know what to get from you next. =)

There's a ton of stuff that's really caught my eye as of late that I definately want to check out. Ju-On, A Tale of Two Sisters, Dark Water, Infernal Affairs, My Sassy Girl and Umazaki, among others, of course. I've become a mark for Asian Cinema.

Muggletron-
Please post a public warning about Sonatine.
It is your civic duty to swerve folks from this suckfest extraordinaire.

Sonatine? Suck? Wow, I've heard such glowing reviews for it. Interesting. Still wanna check out all the Takeshi Kitano I can. I've got a few of his films on my Netflix, but the one I most wanna see is Hana-Bi and they don't have it. Well, that and Zatoichi.

Hana-Bi? Is that "Fireworks"? If so, I'd check Netflix again, or else I'm sure I can come up with a copy for you, Demp.

Later tonight, there will be a post regarding your previous comment.

Nope, they don't have it. I didn't remember that I have seen Hana-Bi called Fireworks as well, but I searched again under both names and they turned up nothing. =(

Checked the IMDb. Hana-Bi is Fireworks. If you want a copy, I can come up with one.

RE: Sonatine
Please understand that I epitomize the Occidental Video Tool. I don't get deeper meanings, and any subtext that doesn't club me like a whale on a Japanese processing ship is wasted.
I'm sure that somebody, somewhere, considers Sonatine a work of staggering depth and true cinematic genius. I view it as pseudointellectual claptrap, and two hours of my life that I will never get back.
